It is located northwards of Polygyros in the mountainous volume of Cholomonta. The distance from Polygyros is 10 klm.
The population of Palaiokastro amounts to 228 people according to the inventory of 1991. The people mainly deal with agriculture and timber and as a result the products of this place are cereals and timber. There are also people who work in the mining of Gerakini and in the quarries of the area.
The drive from Palaiokastro to St.Paraskevi and the traditional old settlement of the village are some of the sights. The people of Palaiokastro keep to their tradition. On the day of the Epipfany the traditional custom of "Fotaradon" is beeing revived from the people of the village.
